Klue Wines

The logo designed for Klue Wines is a sophisticated crest that tells a rich and meaningful story about the brand’s origins and values. At the heart of the crest is the year “1909,” marking the date the farm was originally purchased—a nod to the heritage and longstanding dedication to winemaking that spans generations. This historic touch roots the brand in authenticity, offering a sense of timelessness and legacy that’s carried through every bottle of wine produced.

A central element of the design is the depiction of water, symbolizing the Breede River which runs alongside the farm. This river is not just a nearby feature, but a vital lifeline for the vineyards, providing the irrigation essential for nurturing the grapes. By including this natural element in the logo, Klue Wines emphasizes their connection to the land and the sustainable, nature-driven process behind their wines. It’s a visual tribute to the importance of water in both the practical and poetic sense—sustaining growth and giving life.

Another powerful motif within the crest is the image of a wolf, a reference to the farm’s original name, Wolvendrift. The wolf adds an element of wild strength and resilience, qualities that reflect the pioneering spirit of the estate’s early days. Completing the crest is a bold “K”, representing the Klue family name. This single letter anchors the design in the present, symbolizing the current generation’s vision and commitment to carrying the family legacy forward. Together, these elements form a logo and wine label that is not only visually striking but deeply meaningful.

For the wine label design elements of the logo were used as the compass, with the addition of an embossed signature of “Oupa Klue” found in the family wine archives.
