It’s getting a frame for sure. The sass is on another level with this one. Our little pink cheek cherub is turning two in July and my heart is simultaneously aching and excited at the same time. Excited for this little one to start speaking and growing into herself, but also heartsore knowing that my last little baby is now almost too big for her cot. We rented a lovely @airbnb close to the hotel, and spent our mornings on the beach and afternoons around the fire cooking supper. 🌸 Baby Amaryllis 🌸 Hume’s great aunt, or 🌸 Baby Amaryllis 🌸 Hume’s great aunt, or “granty” , as she prefers to be called, gifted Hume a basket planted with big white fluffy Amaryllis flowers when he was born. The basket deteriorated with the years and our move back to the farm was the final push it needed to completely fall apart. Taking out the bulbs I realised that this gorgeous girl has made SO many babies! I am thrilled to say I now have three baskets to fill with “Ammies”. I love putting them in old “pluk mandjies” (picking baskets) and leaving them in my garden under trees in dappled shade. Last season was quite a “snaily” one so most of my blooms were 🐌-lunch but I’m crossing my fingers for beautiful blooms come Spring. What are you prepping for your Spring garden? Please tell me I would loooove to know. I’ve done some seed swops with friends and mailed sweet Cape Town friends with other seeds, so I’m very excited to see what my Spring garden holds! 🎵 Slowly writing our own song in our new home 🎵 Golly gosh, people tell you that moving house is stressful but I honestly forgot how much stress it actually is. Nevermind the fact that we now have two additional little humans that also went through the motions with us. Hume has totally regressed with his potty training and Belén developed a phobia for any and all bugs as well as getting into the tub. All this since moving house. Last night was the first time in the new house that Belén wasn’t washed whilst kicking and screaming, thanks to bubble bath! Hume is also back in his “treat for a loo visit” system and hopefully things will start looking up for him soon. We have spoken about painting his room too and that he can choose the colour all by himself. I am hoping that this creative process will make his new room feel like his own! 🍳 Last Sunday Brunch 🍳 A brunch of leftover 🍳 Last Sunday Brunch 🍳 A brunch of leftover pulled pork, chocolate pancakes, boiled eggs, rooibos tea and toast for our last Sunday morning family breakfast in this house. Bittersweet. Even though we are so very excited for our next chapter of living on the farm, I will always love this house because both our babies spent their newborn days here with us. Late night feedings, early morning wake up calls, first baths, baby snuggles, Christmas tree decorating, garden picnics, lockdown art, sweet pea and veggie garden projects, puddle jumping, golfing and bird watching. I hope the next family will also only find joy in this special space. This pain and suffering is overwhelming to fathom. In the Victorian era the “language of flowers” were primarily used to convey messages without speaking them out load. 🌸 A season for change 🌸 Our seasons are sta 🌸 A season for change 🌸 Our seasons are starting to change. Not just weather wise, but for many people, also emotionally. Whilst organising my garage last week I came across my seasonal seeds and remembered that it was almost time to plant my sweet peas. It got me thinking about the things we hold onto or the things we let go of in life. Moving house definitely forces you to do that! You start to wonder where some of these “things” even came from and forces you to consider if it still serves you in the way it once did. This is a big life lesson for myself and a question I keep going back to when considering who and what I spend my time on. This is also the reason why I know I love my job, because it brings me SO much joy. Life is just way too short to spend it on things and people that don’t make your soul tingle with excitement, gratitude and inspiration. My beautiful friend Liz from @grow_giirl is also moving house at the moment and shared a couple of lovely thoughts on “changing seasons” that resonated with me this morning. I love listening to her podcasts and watching her weekly Insta stories. She is so inspiring! So if you needed a little “push” from the universe this morning to prioritise the important things in your life. Every time I take one out of these frocks out of her wardrobe, she exclaims, “Mooi!” (beautiful). Even though these dresses are over 35 years old, each and every one if them are still perfect.
